In het najaar starten de werken voor de bouw van een nieuwe sporthal in Zemst. Ondertussen werden de plannen goedgekeurd en werd de opdracht toegewezen.
Gemeente Zemst gaat een nieuwe sporthal bouwen en de omgeving ervan aanleggen en inrichten. Deze opdracht werd toegewezen aan een tijdelijke maatschappij met als partners Pellikaan, Sweco, Studio Klein Brabant en A33 Architecten voor het bedrag van 5,5 miljoen euro.
‘Elke sportieveling in Zemst weet dat de huidige sporthal toe was aan vernieuwing’, verduidelijkt burgemeester Veerle Geerinckx. ‘Onze gemeentelijke sporthal dateert van 1984 en voldoet niet meer aan de huidige normen, noch op sporttechnisch vlak, noch op energetisch en bouwfysisch vlak. Daarom planden we dit groots project in onze meerjarenplanning 2020-2025.’
De sporthal wordt gebouwd op een nieuwe locatie, namelijk naast de huidige site van GC de Melkerij, Brusselsesteenweg 3 in Zemst. De werken starten in het najaar van 2023 en zullen ongeveer anderhalf jaar duren. De huidige sporthal blijft open gedurende de volledige bouw van de nieuwe sporthal. Dit is een voordeel van de bouw op een andere locatie.
‘Ik kijk reikhalzend uit naar dit grootse project’, zegt Tim Borteel, schepen van Sport in Zemst. ‘Het project omvat de bouw van een multi-sporthal met een oppervlakte van ongeveer 2 327m². Het gebouw wordt uitgerust voor het spelen van volleybal en basketbal. Overdag kunnen onze scholen gebruik maken van de sporthal. Verder komen er nieuw kleedkamers, een polyvalente zaal, technische ruimtes en een uitschuifbare tribune.’
Samen met de bouw van de sporthal wordt ook de omgeving ingericht. ‘We voorzien een parkzone, een uitbreiding van het evenementenplein, een kiss en ride, een petanquebaan, een kunstgrasveldje, een ruime fietsenstalling, een minivoetbalpitch, een oefenveld en een fiets- en wandelverbinding doorheen de site’, aldus schepen Borteel.
De gemeente Zemst zal een infomarkt organiseren voor alle geïnteresseerden. Daar zal het project concreet toegelicht worden. Meer info volgt.
